Meditative
Painting
Meditation. What comes to mind when you think of meditation? Is it sitting quietly on a cushion, eyes closed, focusing on your breath? For many, that’s the picture that comes to mind when we think about meditation. To me, meditation is the practice of calming a busy mind in order to be in a state of calm, grounded awareness, and flow. Meditation can reduce stress, anxiety, and depression, enhance peace and calm, and create a greater sense of well-being.
Dot painting is one form of meditation I’ve come to love. It’s creative, fun, relaxing, and calms the brain and body. As you quiet the active mind, it’s quite easy to drop into a flow and lose track of time. I enjoy painting on my own and absolutely love teaching it to others, too. Many people come to my classes with limiting beliefs
about their “ability” to be creative and artistic. It’s common to hear, “I don’t think I can actually do that…I’m not an artist!” What thrills me every time are the comments I hear at the end of class. People are surprised by what they can do, what they’ve created, the process, how relaxing and satisfying it is, and the calming effect on their being.
